Empisini Nature Reserve: 5 km
The sixty hectare Empisini Nature Reserve is situated on KwaZulu Natal's South coast a short distance from the well known diving community of Umkomaas. The reserve is owned by the Umkomaas town council, and is managed by the Umkomaas Centre of Wildlife
Aliwal Shoal: 6 km
During the Sardine Run in June and July huge schools of sardines attract a feeding frenzy of sharks and other predators.
Several diving centres provide equiptment, training, and transport.

Situated 40 kilometers to the south of Durban is the small holiday village of Clansthal. Situated high on a cliff above the village is the Green Point Light, otherwise known as the Clansthal Lighthouse, put here to warn mariners of the world renowned Aliwal Shoal situated some five kilometers out to sea, and a mecca for scuba divers worldwide. Just a few kilometers to the south of Clansthal and just off the road to Ixopo lies the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve.
