At Rorke's Drift, only 42km from Dundee, 100 British soldiers clashed with 4000 Zulu Warriors and defended their post at Rorke's Drift in a 12 hour engagement.
11 Victoria Crosses were awarded to some of the British Soldiers. Fortunately there were two survivors from Isindlwana who managed to alert the British forces at Rorke's Drift in time foir them to erect defences in and around the hospital structure.  The Zulu forces suffered heavy losses under the fire power of the Boers. The Museum at Rorke's Drift is a worthwhile visit and bed and breakfast accommodation in Rorke's Drift will allow easy access for exploring other Natal Midlands Battlefields sites and monuments in and around Rorke's Drift.  Guest houses in Rorke's Drift as well as self catering accommodation in Rorke's Drift are quite  popular especially on the anniversaries of famous British and Zulu wars (or British, Boer battles / Boer, Zulu battles).  It would be advisable to do a Rorke's Drift accommodation search well in advance, alternatively try accommodation in Dundee or accommodation in Glencoe for convenient options.

Review accommodation in Rorke's Drift - Isibindi Zulu Lodge, a Private Game Reserve in Rorke's Drift, KwaZulu-Natal

If you have overseas friends visiting South Africa for the first time, consider Isibindi Zulu Lodge for Rorke's Drift accommodation in the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields. This makes for a profound 'African' experience. Our visitors loved the Battlefields accommodation units, which are designed to resemble Zulu beehive huts.

Typically, because Isibindi Zulu Lodge is regarded as THE Midlands accommodation in heart of the Battlefields, it offers great battlefield tours, and many authentic Zulu cultural experiences. Besides the morning and evening game drives that Isibindi Zulu Lodge offers, it was also quite safe to picnic beside the river, where we saw giraffe, zebra and wildebeest.

As the sun set after the Rorkes Drift Battlefields tour, our friends were delighted to see Zulu dancers for the first time, and feel part of the Zulu tradition. We also got to meet a real Zulu Sangoma, who thrilled our guests by 'throwing the bones.'

We highly recommend this catered private game reserve accommodation in Rorke's Drift - Isibindi Zulu Lodge is a one of a kind getaway!
