The Southern Drakensberg area is one of outstanding natural beauty that stretches along the Lesotho border from the Giant's Castle area through the Garden Castle State Forest and along the Eastern Cape border. There are a great number of accommodations of many different types dotted about through the area. These range from hotels and mountain resorts to simple self-catering establishments. There are plenty of things to spend your time doing in the Southern Drakensberg. You can take a guided tour to some of the many caves and waterfalls in the area, and see some of the many San rock paintings to be found here. Here you will find peace and tranquility amidst a backdrop of beautiful mountain peaks.
The southern Drakensberg is part of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountain Range that extends from the Eastern Cape as far as the Kruger National Park in the North. For the not so active there are many other pastimes, from bowls to golf, from tennis to canoeing. This is a wonderful retreat that is just over two hours drive from Durban.
